¿Y quién es Kovacs? Kovacs
is een Nederlandse zangeres!/ Kovacs
is a Dutch jazzy-singer who most of the time sing in English!

because her voice is so intimate that only the one who knows a little about good
music should enjoy her rare taste and her outrageous lyrics / Precisamente por
eso: porque su voz es tan íntima que solo un amante de la buena música podría
disfrutar de su estilo raro y sus fuertes letras... So...NO BUZZ!
It was in the summer on a Saturday afternoon when she
appeared at the ‘Pinkpop Festival 2015’ with her feline outfit - a kind of wolf
cape -. Somehow her aspect and tone was both, fake and fated, Mephistophelian
and angelical, dark and lightly, gothic and slightly shabby. It was a raining
day - within not too much mood for rubbish - when suddenly something magic
happened: it was Kovacs! It was like to be in the middle of a hybrid between a Dickensian
tale produced by Walt Disney, or a black novel told by a fairy princess or, as someone added, ‘Like a Bacchus’ fever
as a driving force behind the rising drizzly Festival.’
After her appearance it was a need to look forward.
So, the obvious was to make a research in Google and to listen a little her
videos in YouTube. And then… to change the state of virtuality into a real
object buying her album Shades of Black. Cherry-picking I
decided to buy the L.P and it was a very good decision; later for Christmas I
received a CD version, A Limited Dutch Edition, incl. 9 live tracks from
Pinkpop 2015! Also a very well done production.
It was how Kovacs came to be part of my innermost
moments during and after the summer of 2015. Actually, her music has created a
very cozy warm ambiance in our tiny apartment, not only in the sunny mornings but
also in the darkness of the winter nights. It’s maybe because the voice of Kovacs
is both profound and sweet like a dying-and rising god, or like an inebriating
wine such as Amy Winehouse’s voice was. Since Amy used to be the muse behind
Kovacs - even if is not necessary- she has to be mentioned. Her admirers are
hoping it happens for the very good reasons and would to see in Kovacs a
raising fairy power after the fallen angel. And all of us are expecting from
Kovacs the unexpected: a happy-end that makes sense of the history of a raising
generation.
And so, to say that My Love is better to The
Devil you Know, or that Digging is better than Whiskey
and Fun should be a matter of taste - as almost everything in the
music’s world-. But, if something is for sure is that the album as a whole is a
very compelling production balancing both the demands of the market with the
talent of a young artist who influenced by her upbringing in the heart of
Holland knew how made her little dream came true. Song by song, shade by shade, she had been
capable to reveal us the 50 shades of Black.
